I just completed my 8-hour break-in period and am now ready for the next hurricane. Unfortunately, I am running into resistance from our homeowners association due to the noise generated during the break-in and any periodic startups for maintenance. A good muffling system would be the ideal solution. Other than that, the generator is great!
Following the power outage caused by Hurricane Ian, I opted to buy a Duramax generator after several of my friends recommended it. I'm now prepared for the next power outage, as this generator is capable of running my entire house. The seller was very helpful in answering my questions, and I highly recommend this product.
We bought this generator in case of power outages, and it has worked well so far. We are prepared.
I bought the XP1300 EH. The video online made the setup look easy. The online manual looked about the same at first glance. When the unit arrived I noticed multiple differences that were in neither the video nor the manual that came with it. The pictures were all close up so you have to search the entire machine for each spot they are showing. The manual shows brackets and old blocking under the unit that have to be removed. On mine there was no wood blocking and it wasn’t in the videos. The bracket is completely different than the one shown. There is a new brace that has been welded underneath and the bracket is attached to it with bolts that you can’t reach with the tools provided. The bracket is one piece instead of 2. No big deal but I like things in front of me to match what is in the manual. The support feet are different bolts are welded in place making attaching the nuts hard if you have adult hands. The pics for the feet and the wheels are Lousy and you can’t see where the washers go if you don’t already know.
The negative battery cable has to be attached. It skips that in the quick set up guide but there is a separate card as a reminder in the package. The cover has bolts smaller than any of the tools provided so I had to get out the socket set. The manual shows the included screw driver being used to attach the terminal but the but is Phillips and the screw driver is slotted. Also the area to work is tiny so a regular screw driver is too long so I had to grab my stubby.
The additional tools needed are no big deal if you are in a fully stocked garage but become a problem under adverse conditions where you might actually need a generator. It also doesn’t come with any oil or a grounding wire.
I love the convenience of the push-button, computer-controlled start. If it doesn't start within a few seconds, the starter will try again. This generator is big enough to power my entire house, and I'm having a manual main breaker added to the outside of my house. It's one of the few generators with copper windings instead of aluminum wire, so switching to generator power will take only five minutes. Plus, if I ever run out of gasoline, I can just flip a switch and run on propane from my BBQ.
